Siklo (2022)

A pastor’s mistress and a delivery rider get engaged in a steamy affair. When their secrets are revealed, they have to face the consequences.

Roman Perez Jr.

Vince Rillon, Christine Bermas, Joko Diaz, Alma Moreno, Rob Guinto, Ayanna Misola

It does not surprise that Vivamax’s first feature of the year is yet another semi-erotic film that features practically unknown stars.

"Siklo" had some sense of story within it. There's elements about cultism, politics, corruption, and even a basic look into the lives and plights of delivery riders. But this movie was severely hampered by focusing half of the time on its more sensual side (like most VivaMax releases). Without proper character development, the surprise twists and turns in its climactic end all fall flat in a sloppy and floppy finish of what could have been.

A delivery rider (Vince Rillon) struggles to make ends meet and is forced to transfer to a new delivery app called "Siklo".  Soon after, he receives constant bookings from a mysterious yet beautiful girl (Christine Bermas). The two instantly develop a friendship and the rider discovers that the girl is a trapped as a mistress of a powerful man (Joko Diaz). Can he, a simple deliver rider, help end the cycle of abuse that surrounds her?

The first scene of "Siklo" confounds us until now. It sets up our main character (played by Vince Rillon) as thief and as a scumbag of a delivery rider and yet the film wants us to root for him? This happens countless times within the film wherein you really don't know who is good or who is bad. This "grey area" is usually a good thing but in "Siklo", it's not because it was caused by the film's lack of story or character development. Most of this is rooted in the film's need to push sex scene after sex scene. Half of the film are sex scenes and any momentum that could have gone to character development doesn't happen because of this. We barely get to know anyone in the film including our lead characters. In fact, Ayanna Misola's character (Vince Rillon's pregnant girlfriend) could have been completely removed from the film and the narrative would have been the same or even better. The film tries to ramp things up in its climax with it throwing twist after twist at the audience. But without any backbone to these surprises, these were simply ineffective and laughable by the time they are revealed. On the acting front, we found Vince Rillon's and Joko Diaz's performances as the best of the bunch but these were passable at best. We do hope that this is a sign that the heaping mess of a "cycle" for VivaMax might be ending. We deserve better films and while sex won't go away, we need a balance of both story and bold which "Siklo" had some semblance of. While "Siklo" isn't really the biggest step forward in the right direction, it's a small step nonetheless.

Setting the story in a fictitious cult called "Samahan ng mga Alagad ni Amang" is quite provocative. The juicy lines at the film's eventful third act was campy and over-the-top as only Alma Moreno and Joonee Gamboa could deliver them, totally showing their neophyte co-stars how it should be done. This was an auspicious first feature of the new year for Vivamax, which now finally features a parental control PIN for their films with mature content.

My Husband, My Lover is [definitely] not going to be Viva Film’s last sexy feature this year, even though moviegoers are now inclined to start entering the movie theaters, this month.

That should take away a significant chunk from the established stream-loving moviegoers, but that won’t discourage Viva Films and Vivamax from releasing similar films, either, especially now that filmmakers can only mostly release semi-erotic features on streaming platforms like Vivamax.

If you’re into steamy-scene-bombarded films, My Husband, My Lover, will be so much easy to watch. But it’s not for those who want to follow a deep story.

The fact that this is written by the prolific film writer Ricky Lee, makes it inviting enough to spark interest. Director Mac Alejandre seems all-out in taking on Reyes’ script, and to his credit, he has crafted a loudly-controversial piece whose noise largely comes from its showcase of ultra-passionate encounters between the film’s four aesthetically alluring leads.

Both Kylie Versoza and Cindy Miranda have found renewed fame, after being launched as Viva’s sex goddesses this year. Both just came from similarly sexy features that had them in title roles.

Versoza played a cunning maid having an affair with her boss in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean thriller, The House Maid, while Miranda was a cursed beauty in Nerisa.

Marco Gumabao has a string of starring roles in movies this year, and he is no foreign to playing characters that demand him to bear most of his naked body. Dramatic actor Adrian Alandy shows no discomfort, either, in stripping off with Gumabao, as he too, has the capability of handling daring scenes.

My Husband, My Lover is not a perfecr film, but regardless of its flaws, there is a level of sophistication employed to make several parts of the film stand out from the rest. Alejandre’s creative vision somewhat blur the overwhelming intimacy. There are moments where the burning chemistry of the leads gets the better spotlight, although the nearly-relentless sex encounters may likely get the bigger audience.

Aurora (2018 Filipino film) Tagalog Movies

The passenger ship Aurora mysteriously collides into the rocky sea threatening an entire island. A young woman and her sister must both survive by finding the missing dead for a bounty.

Director  :     Yam Laranas

Writers   :     Gin De Mesa , Yam Laranas

Stars         :     Anne Curtis , Phoebe Villamor , Mercedes Cabral , Allan Paule , Andrea Del Rosario , Marco Gumabao, Arnold Reyes

Aurora is a 2018 Filipino horror thriller film.

written and directed by Yam Laranas and starring Anne Curtis. It serves as an official entry to the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival and marks Curtis' third and last film of 2018, following her box-office hits Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story and BuyBust. The film is inspired by the 1987 disaster of MV Doña Paz's collision with MT Vector.

The story follows Leana (Curtis) who lives peacefully in the island with her younger sister Rita. Everything changes when a ship named Aurora crashes near their vicinity. Rita has an ability to see dead people, but every time she sees them, disastrous and catastrophic events occur. Leana must then protect the young girl at any cost before it is too late. The film was partially inspired by the sinking of the Philippines' MV Doña Paz.

A passenger ship named Aurora crashed into a rock near the shore of a small island. After conducting a search, there are still some bodies of victims who have not been found. Because it had taken a long time, the search was stopped. However, the victim's family secretly requested that Leana (played by Anne Curtis), the owner of a beachfront inn not far from where the Aurora ship was stranded and at the same time as a temporary base during the search, continued the search. They promised to pay a hefty sum for each body Leana found.

Only living alone with her sister, Rita (Phoebe Villamor), after the death of her parents, Leana accepts the offer. He then cooperates with Eddie (played by Allan Paule), a local fisherman, with a profit-sharing agreement. Strangely, since then Leana began to see sightings of Aurora's victims. Not only on the rocks, but even inside the inn.

Knowing that Eddie is more eager to find ship cargo and sell it, Leana asks her best friend (or boyfriend?), Ricky (played by Marco Gumbao), to come with Eddie. Ricky's older brother, Phillip (Arnold Reyes), happens to be one of the local survivors of the Aurora tragedy.

While diving near the boat with Eddie, Ricky finds the body of a tall, large man. They then brought it to the mainland and showed it to Leana. Rita is not afraid, Leana deliberately hides it in the warehouse.

The existence of the man's body turned out to make the appearance at the inn even more massive. Rita was even seen several times visiting room 2A on the top floor, the room where previously Leana had seen someone's appearance. Later Cecile (played by Andrea Del Rosario), Eddie's wife, also saw an apparition in the room. This incident makes Cecile force Eddie to no longer cooperate with Leana.

Gradually the facts began to emerge. From Phillip, it was known that the body of the tall man was already dead when he was brought inside the Aurora. Whether there is a connection or not, along the way there were many strange events on the ship. Starting from the lights off to the sudden drop in temperature. Some associate it with the man's corpse, which is considered unlucky for Aurora.

The climax is when the captain of the ship seems to deliberately direct Aurora to the rock. An accident happened. It was later revealed that the ship was overloaded, or excess passengers. Some of the stowaway were collected in a locked warehouse so as not to be caught when the ship was inspected. Unfortunately for them, when an accident occurs, they can't do anything at all. It was their bodies that in the end could not be found because they were still trapped in the ship.

This is known to Leana and Rita when they both experience a magical journey to the moment where Aurora has an accident. Upon returning to the real world, the bodies of the missing Aurora victims were all already inside Leana's inn.

Class of 2018 Movie Review " 2018 Filipino teen suspense "

Class of 2018

When Section Zamora contracts a mysterious virus during a field trip, they are quarantined by the military in an abandoned facility. Students Ada, RJ, Princess, and Migs fight for their survival as they deal with the dangers of the infectious virus and politics among untrustworthy classmates.

Director  : Charliebebs Gohetia
Writers   : Charliebebs Gohetia , Jericho Aguado
Stars : Sharlene San Pedro, Nash Aguas, Kristel Fulgar, CJ Navato, Kiray Celis, Lara Fortuna

Class of 2018 is a 2018 Filipino teen suspense–thriller film directed by Charliebebs Gohetia. It stars Sharlene San Pedro and Nash Aguas. The film was produced and distributed by T-Rex Entertainment. It premiered in the Philippines on November 7, 2018.

T-Rex Entertainment, an independent Filipino production company which started in late 2015, began producing Class of 2018 during the first half of 2018. The project was headed by its executive producer Rex Tiri, who had produced films such as dark comedy Patay na si Hesus in 2016 and comedy-drama musical Deadma Walking in 2017.

Del Pilar National High School hosts a class full of rejects. Section Zamora, the name of the 12th grade class, goes on a field trip to Mt. Bantayog for an earth science project. During their excursion, one of them contracts a mysterious virus. Due to its disturbing symptoms, the whole section is quarantined by the military in an abandoned facility. They are soon forced to fight for survival as the unknown virus spreads. Anyone who is infected develops intense aggressiveness and a thirst for violence. Main characters Ada (Sharlene San Pedro), RJ (Nash Aguas), Princess (Kristel Fulgar), and Migs (CJ Navato) fight for survival as they deal with the dangers of the virus and politics among untrustworthy classmates.

"Class Of 2018" follows the students of Section Zamora, the section where Del Pilar National High School’s young misfits, losers, and delinquents usually end up in. Everyone knows that anyone in Section Z has no chance of a good future. When Section Z goes on a field trip to Mt. Bantayog for an Earth Science project, one of them contracts a mysterious virus. The infected student quickly develops disturbing symptoms, eventually driving him to attack the rest of his classmates. Out of nowhere, the military swoops in and quarantines the class in an abandoned facility somewhere deep in the forest to control the spreading of the virus. While inside the quarantine zone, everyone in Section Z is forced to fight for survival. Their issues with each other arise as quickly as the spreading of the mysterious virus, which heightens the infected’s aggression and thirst for violence. Believing that a proper future is waiting for them outside, the surviving students gear up to fight their infected classmates, who have transformed into mindless violent monsters. With the additional threat of the military who quarantined them for suspicious reasons, will the students make it out alive?

"Class Of 2018" doesn't really work as a horror film. It's more of a scifi thriller infused with some comedy. Imagine "The Maze Runner" meets "Battle Royale" with a Pinoy flavor. Its premise may not be new to us since we have seen many stories about experiments gone wrong in movies, but the script from Charliebebs Gohetia and Jericho Aguado manages to be interesting enough as they stuffed it with many twists and turns. Gohetia, who recently directed the Cinema One Originals comedy film "Bagyong Bheverlynn", infused the story with effective humor that creates a perfect balance between violence and laughs. The production values were okay, plus it has some nice visuals (despite some rough CGI), particularly the playful cinematography.

But the biggest aspect as to why the film works is because of its cast. It was so nostalgic to watch Sharlene San Pedro and Nash Aguas together since I have witnessed these two grow up from those cute little child actors back then to the teens that they are now. Their acting prowess were on full display of the film. NashLene fans will also get their money's worth because of their sweet little moments together. Kiray Celis was so fun to watch as your typical mean girl/ queen bee. I don't know why Michelle Vito keeps on getting typecast as the dumb rich or mean girl in movies ("irregardless?") but to her credit, she does the job really, really good. CJ Navato was okay as the nerd of the group, though he didn't really have anything to do except to make theories about what's going around them. Ethan Salvador and Jomari Angeles (both from the film "2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten") did a great job with their roles as Nash Aguas' buddies. Lara Fortuna was a revelation as the ass-kicking fighter in the group. But it was Kristel Fulgar who stole the spotlight as the mean girl turned good girl of the class. Her character was the most interesting one among the class. Kristel's performance was probably the best in the film. Her funny and quirky portrayal added to the enjoyment of watching the film.

Of course, the film isn't that perfect. It has several plotholes, some really bad characters who always choose making stupid decisions (like risking your life and another person's for a necklace?), and those weird visions of the characters' future whenever they die. The scares also don't work that much. I also sensed that some of the characters don't feel any danger at all.

Despite its flaws, "Class Of 2018" is a pretty engaging and amusing teensploitation. And aside from its entertainment value, it's also a morality play on today's society and a critique on this generation's youth, in the guise of a teen horror thriller with lots of comedy. It has its moments of fun and thrills, and loads of fan service. It's the type of film best enjoyed with friends as it promises viewers a really good time at the cinema.
