Watch My Ex & Whys (2017)  Liza Soberano, Enrique Gil | Movie Review | Tagalog | Films

My Ex and Whys is a 2017 Philippine romantic comedy drama film co-written and directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. Starring Enrique Gil & Liza Soberano, the story is about a womanizer named Gio (Gil), who tries to prove he's a changed man to his ex-girlfriend, a blogger named Cali (Soberano). Cali, on the other hand, tests if Gio really has changed, and things didn't go as planned. The film was released on February 15, 2017 to commercial and critical success, grossing over ?400 million worldwide. My Ex And Whys is the highest-grossing film to be starred by Soberano and Gil to date.

Special Movies: Liza Soberano, Enrique Gil, Ara Mina, Joey Marquez, Cai Cortez, Arlene Muhlach

Release : 2017-02-15

Country : Philippines

Genre : Romance

Production Co : Star Cinema – ABS-CBN Film Productions

My Ex and Whys is hardly subtle at all with what it wants love to wage war against this time.

Cali (Liza Soberano) is a blogger whose inspiration for the questions she posts online is her prolonged disdain towards her ex who cheated on her. Gio (Enrique Gil) is that ex. They rekindle communications on social media for all the world to see and participate in. Eventually, the spats and debates the two ex-lovers broadcast online be relationship sparks a debate, a rabid fight between those who favor Cali’s distrust with all men and Gio’s fervent desire to prove her wrong.

Cali comes from a household of women scorned by men they loved and continue to love. Gio, on the other hand, is surrounded by kin who brag about their skillful infidelities. Cali capitalizes on gender stereotypes to put down men during her online tirades, while Gio resists the urge to make a mistake that will prove Cali right.

My Ex and Whys capitalizes on gender stereotypes, whether true or not, to separate the two former lovers, allowing love to conquer them.

It doesn’t delve deep enough to dig whether or not Cali’s preoccupation with stereotyping the opposite sex has merit. It just paints a comical scenario to backdrop its familiar love story with, and nothing more. It is thoroughly entertaining, although at times, its persistence on painting its characters too simply turn them into noxiously close-minded individuals.

It is to Soberano’s credit that she is able to charm her way out of her character’s inexplicable immaturity. Gil, on the other hand, plays the suffering ex-boyfriend with ample enthusiasm. If My Ex and Whys is meant to be a simple showcase of a love team’s power to arouse fantasy and make-believe, then it seems like it is all worth it.

The movie however has a lot of interesting ideas, which it squarely abandons all for the sake of formula.

Please watch the film My Ex and Whys , because everyone's opinion is different.

Northern Lights: A Journey to Love is a 2017 Filipino drama film directed by Dondon S. Santos and written by Onay Sales that stars Piolo Pascual, Yen Santos, and Raikko Mateo. The film is a collaboration between Regal Entertainment, Star Cinema, and Spring Films. The film's executive producers were Lily Monteverde, Roselle Monteverde, Charo Santos-Concio, Malou Santos, Piolo Pascual, Joyce Bernal, and Erickson Raymundo.

The film was released on March 29, 2017.

Charlie Sr. (Piolo Pascual) is a Filipino immigrant in Alaska who is living a carefree life. His life suddenly changes when he is tasked to take care of his estranged son, Charlie Jr. (Raikko Mateo), whom he had left behind in the Philippines. As he struggles to become a real father to his son, Charlie crosses paths with Angel (Yen Santos), a quirky Filipina who went to Alaska to find her lost mother.

Before you head to theaters to see it, here are a few things about the movie you need to know.

1. The movie was originally called Once In A Lifetime, but it was eventually changed to Northern Lights.

"We really wanted [the title] Northern Lights because it speaks a lot about the whole milieu in the story of the film," Piolo said. "Pero iyon nga po, dahil hindi nga nagkasundo sa title. You're talking about 3 productions that had to agree on kung ano yung may mas punch na title, so we all agreed na mas maganda gamitin yung Northern Lights."

(But yeah, we couldn't agree on the title. You're talking about 3 productions that had to agree on a title that had more of a punch, so we all agreed that it would be better to use Northern Lights.)

The movie was produced by 3 production companines: Spring Films, Star Cinema, and Regal Entertainment.

2. The film was shot in New Zealand and Alaska.

The cast and crew went to New Zealand to film a big part of the movie. Director Dondon Santos, meanwhile, went to Alaska to shoot some additional footage to capture the tituar northern lights, as it was summer in Alaska when they started to film.

3. This is Yen's first movie and the first time Piolo and Yen have teamed up.

In an interview after the press conference on March 1, Piolo said he enjoyed working with Yen.

"Yen [is] refreshing. This is her first film," said Piolo. Yen's previous projects have been TV shows like Magpahanggang Wakas and Pure Love. Yen gained attention after appearing on Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash in 2010.

"Na-draw ako sa energy niya, sa excitement niya, yung pag-anticipate niya doon sa mga eksena niya. Nag-enjoy ako. Syempre, being in the business for quite sometime already, naghahanap ka din ng inspiration. So she’s one of my inspirations," he said.

(I was drawn into her energy, her excitement, her anticipation of her scenes. I enjoyed it. Of course, being in the business for some time already, you look for inspiration. So she's one of my inspirations.)

Yen, on the other hand, said she couldn't help but feel "kilig" about being paired up with Piolo. At the press conference, she was even laughed when asked what she felt about being paired up with Piolo.

"Quotang-quota na po ako. Tapos na yung laban," she joked.

"Sobrang thankful ako and naniniwala po naman ako na everything happens for a reason, kung bakit po ako yung napili. Siguro ang makakasagot niyan si direk [Dondon Santos]," she said.

(I'm really thankful and I believe everything happens for a reason, when it comes to why I was chosen. I guess the one who can answer that would be director [Dondon Santos].)

4. The movie's plot was inspired by father-son relationships.

On March 20, Piolo was asked if he could relate to the storyline, since he didn't live with his son Iñigo for a long time. Now at 19 years old, Iñigo is following in his dad's footsteps in showbiz.

Piolo said the film was very close to his heart because he and Iñigo went through some of the issues tackled in the film.

"It was so close to home because ayoko gamitin yung anak ko for promo. Ayoko magkaroon ako ng conflict with my real son... Hindi lang naman ako yung nakaranas ng ganitong experience, but I'm sure a lot of fathers, or mothers for that matter, would not want to be in my shoes, to experience something like this. Mahirap, pero iyon yung sinasalamin ng pelikula and you have to cope with that and you have to deal with a conflict like this, na mas mahirap pa, especially napanood nila, nalaman na nila bakit pumunta yung bata sa Alaska," he said.

(It was so close to home because I really don't want to use my son for promotions. I don't want to have conflict with my real son... I'm not the only one who went through this kind of experience, but I'm sure a lot of fathers, or mothers for that matter, would not want to be in my shoes, to experience something like this. It's hard but the movie mirrors that, and you have to cope with that and you have to deal wth a conflict like this, which is even more difficult, especially when they watch, they already know why the kid went to Alaska.)

Dear Other Self (2017) | Philippines | Comedy Romance " Review Movie "

¨“Movie Synopsis¨“

Dear Other Self is a 2017 Filipino romantic comedy film written and directed by Veronica Velasco starring Jodi Santamaria, Xian Lim and Joseph Marco. The film was released in the Philippines on 17 May 2017 and 26 May 2017 in the United States.

A woman finds herself caught in a dilemma whether she will stay at work or pursue her passion for traveling.

Special Movies: Jodi Sta. Maria, Xian Lim, Joseph Marco, Carla Martinez, Bodjie Pascua, Anna Luna

Country : Philippines

Genre : Comedy

Runtime : 108 min.

Production Co : Star Cinema – ABS-CBN Film Productions

Rebecca, nicknamed Becky, is an advertising agency employee whose ultimate dream is to travel the world. Her responsibilities as the breadwinner of her family, however, are holding her back from becoming a travel blogger.

Even with a promising career in advertising, Becky (Jodi Sta. Maria) thinks that it is the right time to drop everything to explore the world. She resigns, goes to Thailand, and stays there for a year to be a full-time travel blogger. Or did she really have the guts to make such a bold move?

"Dear Other Self" has two stories: the first is about Becky embarking on her first solo overseas trip after quitting her job and the second is about how her life turns out after choosing to stay in the advertising agency.

In Thailand, Becky gets to embody her travel blog username "rebeccabyahera." She visits tourist spots, tries out Thai cuisine, and takes part in the Songkran Water Festival. She spends most of her time in Bangkok where she meets Henry (Xian Lim), a fellow carefree traveller who becomes her companion and love interest.

While in the Philippines, Becky continues to be a responsible daughter, doting older sister, dependable friend, and reliable employee. She develops a friendship with co-worker Chris (Joseph Marco) and this blossoms into a relationship. Despite being preoccupied with work duties and life responsibilities, Becky remains hopeful of traveling someday.

Presenting the two scenarios shows viewers the many possibilities that can happen in Becky's life. Everything boils down to making a choice and standing by it. This is evident in how Becky lived her life in both scenarios. She followed her heart and made the most of the opportunities that came her way. The same can be said about the characters of Lim and Marco, with both portrayals gaining Best Supporting Actor nominations from the Star Awards for Movies. Sta. Maria was nominated for Best Actress.

As you eagerly await to see which life Becky ended up choosing, the film will make you realize that no matter which scenario Becky is in, it is important to live without regrets; to be steadfast in taking risks and fearless in living the life you really want.
I appreciate how the movie highlights the pros of solo travel. Indeed, it is intimidating at the get-go, but it becomes fulfilling and rewarding once you embrace the experience and get through it.
Traveling solo forced my shy and sometimes unfriendly self to speak up, ask questions, and interact with strangers. It fostered my independence because I had to decide on everything. It also gave me freedom to alter my itinerary and just do as I please.
In solo travel, you will not just learn about a new culture. You will also discover more things about yourself as it brings about greater self-awareness and confidence. The same happened to Becky, who even wanted to return to the Philippines right away because of homesickness. But she soldiered on and focused on her travel blogging dream, eventually becoming a more grounded and mature version of herself.

“Can We Still Be Friends?” is a spectacle that is not only entertaining, but also invites the audience to reflect on the inner questions of the two main characters. Is it necessary to seek perfection in love? Or feel like 'I don't deserve him. He deserves better.' In fact, the film answers all of that with a snippet at the end of a long line from his same-sex best friend Sam, “I realize that demanding perfection from love is stupid. Or from myself. I have accepted that there will always be something lacking in those who love. The question is, whose flaws are you willing to accept?”

I realized that Diego and Sam felt pretty stupid with their game. Only, somewhat agree with Sam. Yes, basically no one is perfect. But if we want to achieve perfection, actually there is nothing wrong with it, as long as we want to try. What do you think?

A group of friends goes to an island for a short film project when they are attacked by a mysterious killer after playing a game of bloody crayons.

Nine graduating students head to an island across the sea to finish their final project at school. They include Eunice, a timid and soft-spoken young woman; Olivia, Eunice's best friend; Kenly, Olivia's boyfriend with whom she is in a cool-off mode; Justin, Kenly's best friend who is exuberant and outspoken;Party-girl and very girly Richalaine; Marie, whose attributes are prim and classy; Gerard, the class clown also the eldest of the group; Kiko, who is the photographer and has admiration for Eunice; and John, a newcomer student who also harbors romantic feelings for Eunice. They all head out to Olivia's parents' summer home in an island to shoot a short film. On the island they meet Mang Pedring, a caretaker who instantly causes the group to feel uneasy. Olivia notices Kenly's cold nature towards her, causing her to think he has found someone new. She discovers that Kenly has been dating Marie all along, much to her dismay. To top it all off, Eunice has known the entire time and chose to remain oblivious, thinking she is protecting her friend. A fight ensues on both parties.

The next morning, when their shooting commences, Olivia approaches her friends as if nothing happened. Soon, a storm starts, prompting the group to stop shooting. That night, the friends decide to play a game of "Bloody Crayons," a form of "truth or dare?" with a twist. Everyone is instructed to form a circle around a box that has four sets of five crayons—black, white, pink, blue and red. Each color represents a consequence, and each player will draw one crayon at a time. Black represents a rule to be given by the drawer. This rule is to be followed during the course of the game until the next black crayon is drawn. Failure to follow the rule means the drawer will vandalize the face of the violator. White represents immunity of the drawer from the rule until the next white crayon is drawn. Pink crayons represent friendship and whoever draws a pink crayon will choose a friend and have them make the drawer perform a dare. Blue crayons represent honesty. The drawer will confess something they have not done. If the other friends have done the confession, they have to vandalize their own faces. The drawer can also write on the face of someone they know has done the confession. Lastly, red is considered the bloody crayon, the most exciting piece in the game. The three people to draw the first three red crayons will be given the chance to each put a substance of their choosing in a cup and the last person to draw the red crayon will unfortunately drink the mixture. The game is over when the last red crayon is drawn.
