Celestina: Burlesk Dancer (2024) takes an interesting perspective on Celestina's claim to fame, working in a strict and prestigious burlesque house.

Here is a list of the main cast in the film Celestina: Burlesk Dancer (2024):

Yen Durano as Celestina / Tinay, a mother who becomes a burlesk dancer to support her child during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s.

Christine Bermas as Rosalinda, a burlesk dancer who helps Tinay get a job at the theater.

Sid Lucero as Cornelio, Tinay's husband who is a former haciendero who is now a drunkard, gambler, and a womanizer.

Arron Villaflor as Leandro, a man who is interested in Tinay and turns out to be a member of the Hukbalahap.

Allan Paule as Estong, the owner of the theater where Tinay and Rosalinda dance.

Aiko Garcia and Angie Castrence, who also stars in the film.

"Celestina: Burlesk Dancer" – When Stage Lights Hide Wounds**

On stage, Celestina is a goddess of the night—glittering, alluring, untouchable. But behind the velvet curtains and the applause of her devotees, she is just a human being—with wounds, with longings, with dreams that are about to die.

*Celestina: Burlesk Dancer* is not just a film about erotic dance or the glamour of nightlife. It is a visual poem about bodies that are used for entertainment, about souls that are locked behind heavy makeup and fake smiles. The film dances between sensuality and pain, inviting the audience to witness the conflict between dignity and need, between love and existence.

In the hands of the director, Celestina is not just a character. She is a symbol. She represents thousands of women whose lives are a spectacle, but whose stories are never truly heard.

The acting of the main character—bearing the character's name with an almost suffocating intensity—is not only strong, but honest.

There is an explosion of emotion in every glance, in every breath after the dance is over. We don't just see Celestina; we feel with her.

The cinematography is like a surrealist painting. Blood red, gold, and black dominate the screen like raging emotions: passion, anger, loss. The accompanying music creeps into the spine, making the quiet moments feel louder than the long dialogue.

But make no mistake, this is not a comfortable film. It is not meant to please. It disturbs. It forces us to ask: who is really dancing? Celestina... or the rest of us who continue to watch, judge, consume without a care?

**Verdict:**

*Celestina: Burlesk Dancer* is not a light watch.

SOSYAL CLIMBERS Movie Review 2025 Philippines Drama Romance

 Director : Jason Paul Laxamana

Writers : Jericho Aguado, Jason Paul Laxamana

Stars : Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings, Ricky Davao

Summary

Social Climbers (2025) Trapped in deep debt after being caught in a scam, two wannabe socialites create elaborate fake identities to con the rich out of their money.A Charming Romantic Comedy with a Touch of Reality

Ricky Davao was born on March 23, 1961 in the Philippines. He is a director and actor, known for Fuccbois (2019), Dog Nation (2015) and The Kite (1999). He is married to Jackie Lou Blanco.

Maris Racal is known for And the Breadwinner Is... (2024), Here Comes the Groom (2023) and Maris Racal: Carelessly (2023).

Anthony Jennings is known for The Iron Heart (2022), And the Breadwinner Is... (2024) and Incognito (2025).

Filipino romantic comedies have a way of blending humor, heart, and social commentary, and Sosyal Climbers does just that. Directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, the film stars Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings as Jessa and Ray, a married couple who find themselves in debt after being conned. Desperate to turn their fortunes around, they assume new identities—Penelope and Kiefer—and infiltrate Manila’s elite to con and achieve success. But as their deception deepens, more complications arise, testing their morals and their love for each other.

1. Interest and questions about life

At its core, “Social Climbers” is a story about love, passion, and the struggle of society to escape economic hardship. The explanation is not new, but perhaps relevant. The film explores the struggles of workers, the temptation to get rich quick, and the devastating effects of fraud. A blend of humor, romance, and character development in one simple package.

2. Performances That Shine

Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings prove once again why they are among the most promising actors of their generation. Their chemistry is natural, their comedic timing is spot-on, and their dramatic moments feel genuine. Jennings, in particular, delivers a compelling performance, balancing charm and vulnerability. Racal, on the other hand, brings energy and charisma, making her character both endearing and annoying in the best possible way. Their performances lift the film and make up for moments when the pace slows.

3. Fun yet predictable plot

There’s no denying that Sosyal Climbers follows a familiar formula. The story unfolds in a slightly predictable manner and some of the middle scenes feel a bit slow. However, despite its predictability, the film is still entertaining due to its wit, interesting characters, and well-executed emotional beats. The film doesn’t try to reinvent the romantic comedy genre – it’s simply a fun and enjoyable film with enough depth to be memorable.

4. Final Verdict

Social Climbers is a great choice for a relaxing movie night. It’s light, entertaining, and peppered with just enough drama to keep things interesting. If you’re looking for a movie that balances romance, humor, and a touch of social realism, this one is worth a watch. While it may not be the most groundbreaking story, it’s the performances by Racal and Jennings that really make it shine.

Reviews Movies 2025 Sampung Utos Kay Josh Directo Marius Talampas

Reviews Movies 2025. Sampung utos kay Josh Jerald Napoles, Pepe Herrera, Irma Adlawan

Director : Marius Talampas

Writer : Sherwin Buenvenida

Stars : Jerald Napoles, Pepe Herrera, Irma Adlawan

Sampung Utos Kay Josh (lit. 'Ten Commandments For Josh') is a 2025 Philippine black comedy film written by Sherwin Buenvenida and directed by Marius Talampas. The main stars is Jerald Napoles and Pepe Herrera. This is the last film written by Sherwin Buenvenida as he died on June 2024.

The film is about a good samaritan meets satan when he experienced bad luck and violate the ten commandments.

Joshua de Guzman (Jerald Napoles) is a devout Catholic who is always active in spreading the mantra that Jesus is the Boss in our lives and we must always follow His orders.

Joshua de Guzman (Jerald Napoles) lives with his religious mother Elizabeth (Irma Adlawan) in their house filled with religious icons. Elizabeth (Irma Adlawan) works as a commercial loan manager at Kalayaan Bank, under her manager Mr. Montes (Mortiz Weight). The boss's daughter Ella (Debbie Garcia) is his Lover.

Josh's blessed life was all messed up and collapsed one day when the NBI (Joel Saracho and Raffy Tejada) accused him of embezzling money from the bad loan. Her mother was diagnosed with a serious illness. His office buddies -- kleptomaniac Bill (stand-up comic James Caraan), sex maniac Eli (VMX stud Albie Casino), and Josh fan Zoren (MTRCB GB Labrador ad dad) -- help Josh overcome his faith and obedience to his Boss Jesus floundering .

Jerald Napoles has starred in dramas lately, especially “Instant Daddy” (2023) and “Seoulmeyts” (2024), but he has had to act in more serious dramas than others. From playing Lods in “Rewind” (2023), Pepe Herrera plays a nag who taunts Satan here, but I don't get the point of all that fruit he's brandishing. The jokes and gags from the ensemble of supporting comic pals may have some misses or shock value, but in general they are

Religion has always been a thorny topic in films, but writer Sherwin Bienvenida and director Marius Talampas take a firm stance on this, pushing the edge of the R16 rating. The story is an adaptation of the Book of Job, and entire scenes are dedicated to this parallelism. Comedy can somehow lighten the mood, but the point is clear. Of course, there are still some cliche scenes that seem ridiculous, all done with a slapstick spirit.
